HISTORY

As the city of Coimbatore was growing fast and people were settling in the suburbs, Bishcp Visuvasam foresaw the needs of the Catholics, encouraged CMSSS to buy and plan out a Lay-out for Housing Colony and blessed and laid the foundation stone for the new colony on 5th December 1976, Thus Visuvasapuram came into existence. First 61 Catholics families settled there building their own houses. A huge plot was reserved for the future church in the plan. It became the Substation of Gandhipurain and then of Ganapathy. Finally a beautiful Church was built, under the Patronage of Maximillon Kolbe and consecrated on 5th June 1988 by Bishop Ambrose. Bishop Ambrose blessed a new bell tower on 22.08.1993. It was a substation of Ganapathy till May 2004. It was erected as a new parish on 26.5.2004 and Rev. Fr. Robert Bellarmin took charge of the newly erected parish on the same day in a Solemn Eucharistic celebration, presided over by His Lordship Rev. Dr. Thomas Aquinas. The new presbytery was blessed before the Eucharistic celebration on the same day.

The Capitanio Convent Sisters started their convent and a Matriculation High School at Ganesapuram having been invited by Fr. F. M. Antony Muthu when he founded the housing colony of St. Antony.
